The UWF Dunes Preserve Trail is part of the Florida Trail, a National trail from the West Panhandle down to South Florida. This section of the trail leads you around and over sand dunes as you follow orange blazes painted on PVC stakes in the ground. There is little shade on the trail and can be tiring hiking through sand.
Directions To Trailhead
To start at the West Trailhead, follow the signs from Gulf Breeze Proper to Pensacola Beach. You will pass a toll bridge. Continue on this road for 4.8 miles. After passing Portofino Towers on your left, the trail begins on the left heading into the sand dunes. Look for a orange blazed PVC pipe to begin the marked trail. If you wish to start at the East Trailhead, continue another 2.5 miles down the road and look for the orange blazed PVC pipes to your left. There is no parking lot at either trailhead, but you can park off the side of the road.
